Hello, everyone! After seeing the tremendous turnout for our last contest, I’ve been itching to host another. Yesterday, it was officially one year since our last contest, so I thought, “what better way to honor that than by hosting another?” Now that I finally have a topic, it is time to bring everything together. Thus, I would like to officially announce that our second contest officially begins this evening! Here are the details:
Theme
Modern Politics
In November, mid-term elections will be upon us again. We have been graced these last few months with vicious attack ads, mediocre debates, and a slew of candidates vying for your vote. In the spirit of discourse and discussion, I have decided to make this contest about the topic of politics. You can write about anything from how a certain representative has impacted your life to how the system works. The one topic-based rule I have is that the piece must, in some way, be tied into politics dating the last 50 years at the maximum.
The deadline for this contest will be November 14th. I wanted to make the deadline November 2nd to coincide with elections, but I feel that the extra time will benefit all parties involved. I will announce our first, second, and third place winners on or before November 16th. The winners will be awarded with possible publication in Scraps off the Welcome Mat (I am still in the process of fixing everything with the state of Florida to receive NPO status) and points. This time I have purchased the points beforehand in order to make this a seamless process.
If you are interested in judging this contest or offering further prizes to our entrants, please send me a note.

Our Politics Contest is Over! And the Winners Are:
Dear Deviants,
I want to thank everyone who was involved in this contest. The turn-out for this contest was a bit lower than our first, but that was partially due to the poor planning on my part and partially due to a difficult topic. Regardless, I would say that our second contest was a great success and turned out quite a few wonderful poems.
As you can see, there were some poems here that would make any poetry editor foam at the mouth. This made judging a particularly difficult affair, even with only seven pieces. For those of you who did not place, please do not be discouraged. We will be having another contest starting next month with

Free Verse judging completed! Your winners are..
Before I announce the winners, I would like so send a sincere thank you to everyone who participated, either by judging, competing, or donating. Being the first contest I’ve ever hosted on Deviantart, I did not expect the giant response it got and I owe all of my adulation to you. I want to sincerely apologize for taking so long to judge. Next time, the process will be much more streamlined and be much quicker.
For those of you who did not place, please do not be discouraged. As you can see, there were some incredible poems submitted and choosing the winners for this contest took a tremendous amount of time and energy. Just because you
